One or more of the eccentric male members of my extended family always traveled with a complete 1879 edition of the Encyclopedia Brittanica, all 35 volumes of it. Call it intellectual or obsessive compulsive. The man drove ship's pursers and Chef de Trains to distraction but somehow always managed to wangle additional cabinets in his cabin. Our stateroom cabinet would have pleased him with its space for cameras, Baedeker guides, boots and tins of Malossoi caviar to store next to his Brittanica.
